  2. What about confidentiality?
I hold as confidential everything disclosed to me by clients, as well as whom my clients are. My office and my practice are a safe place to discuss personal and private issues. My ethical code requires, and I endorse, the following exceptions to confidentiality for the purpose of client safety: a) when directed by a client to disclose specific information to a specific party or entity and an appropriate release of information has been signed by client, b) when a court order mandates that I disclose specific information, c) when I believe a client poses a threat of danger to himself or another, and d) when there has been a disclosure or I strongly suspect that child abuse is occurring. Whenever possible, the necessity that I uphold any of these exceptions and break confidentiality is discussed with the client prior to my disclosure so that the best possible strategy for all concerned can be determined.
  3. Philosophy of counseling
I practice a client-centered, relational approach to counseling. I am here to offer encouragement, support, information or education. I encourage clients to identify and seek a sense of wellbeing and direction for change that fits for them. I use humanistic, existential and experiential strategies.
  4. What about the use of medical diagnoses?
Counseling services are considered mental health services, and usually require the use of a mental health diagnosis. I am happy to discuss with you what diagnosis I will use for billing purposes and what will show up on your medical records. Your health insurance may or may not cover these services. You can check with your insurer, or I can check for you.
